SU24 Mechanical Engineering Internship
Over summer 2024, I worked as a mechanical engineering intern at WePackItAll, a health-and-wellness filling and co-packaging company in Duarte and Irwindale, California. Throughout the internship, I inspected 20+ packaging processes to identify and propose safety and cost-saving initiatives, including by speaking directly with the operators running those processes and the managers overseeing them. Besides assisting technicians in cataloging an estimated $250,000 in unused assets, the largest initiative I helped analyze was a recommendation to retrofit existing rooms with industrial curtains, whose calculations are summarized in the table below.

This internship gave me incredible insight into manufacturing and warehouse management and maintenance practices. It was a privilege to work alongside friendly, experienced managers, technicians, and packaging machine operators. By tracking inventories and calculating costs, I greatly improved my Excel, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Additionally, I had a few opportunities to brainstorm quick solutions for practical problems. It was very gratifying, for example, to help technicians reconnect pneumatic pumps at better positions and see an immediate increase in comfort and ease-of-use for my operator friends.
