Cradling Love
Some of my Claremont peers recently established a social justice volunteering club dedicated to supporting a marginalized, typically under-the-radar group: student parents, young and/or single moms, and their kids. Cradling Love is an apolitical, non-religious club at the Claremont Colleges that serves this group by hosting speakers, who advocate against the social stigma and lack of institutional support that make pregnancy and parenthood during school so much more daunting than it needs to be. We also partner with a variety of local organizations dedicated to serving moms and families, sending club members to volunteer with setup, teardown, and childcare at their events.

I knew a girl who became pregnant in high school and faced a lot of judgement, not from her family, but from the broader community. I joined Cradling Love in my sophomore year, being convicted to support the cause largely because of that girl’s terrible experience. Since then, I’ve served the club as a secretary, supporting my fellow officers in behind-the-scenes work such as planning logistics meetings and coordinating outreach and event setup. You can learn more about what Cradling Love does, and support us and our awesome partner organizations by following us on Instagram! Our logo, designed by club president Lucas, is heavily modified from the emblem of The Claremont Colleges Services, symbolizing our commitment to serving the marginalized at these Colleges and the broader San Gabriel Valley.
